First Home Owner Grants and Assistance Schemes

$25,000 HomeBuilder Grant

The Federal Government has announced a HomeBuilder grant program, providing eligible owner-occupiers (including first home buyers) with a grant of $25,000 to build a new home or start a major renovation. Thanks to the new grant, now is a great time to build the home you’ve always dreamed of!

$15,000 First Home Owners Grant (QLD)

The $15,000 Queensland First Home Owners’ Grant have made buying a home within easy reach for so many more first home owners in Queensland.

The grant, which is available on contracts dated on, or after July 1, 2016, is accessible to eligible first home owners who buy a newly constructed home or build a new house valued at less than $750,000.

$10,000 First Home Owners Grant (NSW)

If you’re a first home buyer buying or building a new home, you may qualify for a $10,000 grant under the First Home Owner Grant scheme if you purchase on or after 1 January 2016.You can claim the First Home Owner Grant if you’re purchasing:

  • newly constructed home or a substantially renovated home has a total value less than $600,000
  • land for building and any dwelling you intend to build has a combined value less than $750,000.

$5,000 Regional Home Building Boost Grant (QLD)

The regional home building boost grant is a QLD state government initiative to help home owners in regional Queensland into their new home sooner.

The grant provides buyers with $5,000 after the purchase or construction of a brand-new house, unit or townhouse valued at less than $750,000.

First Home Loan Deposit Scheme

The Australian Government is introducing a First Home Loan Deposit Scheme (FHLDS) to support eligible first home buyers purchase a home sooner.

Usually first home buyers with less than a 20 per cent deposit need to pay lenders mortgage insurance. Under the Scheme, eligible first home buyers can purchase a modest home with as little as 5 per cent deposit (lenders criteria also apply).

QLD First Home Concession – savings up to $15,925

The QLD First Home Concession scheme allows buyers to transfer duty when acquiring your first residence.

The concession only applies to homes valued under $550,000 and can save you up to $15,925. The home concession may still apply for a home valued over $550,000. You do not have to be an Australian citizen or permanent resident to claim a concession, but you must meet the eligibility criteria.

NSW First Home Buyer Assistance Scheme – savings up to $24,585 

If you’re a first home buyer, you may be entitled to a concessional rate of transfer duty or even an exemption from paying it altogether under the First Home Buyers Assistance scheme (FHBAS).
